It’s finally here. Wrestlemania 28 is mere minutes away as I post this. So what better way to start this blog than by giving our own predictions for the matches at the event. I am Andrew, and making his predictions alongside me will be Brent. On a side note, later in the week we will have a few introductory blogs, saying who we are and explaining the name of the blog. But back to the near future – 32 minutes away in fact – and Wrestlemania! I must admit I have had limited contact with Brent about these predictions, which is why he appears to go into a lot less detail. So, in no particular order and without further ado…
Daniel Bryan will defeat Sheamus to retain the World Heavyweight Championship after AJ interferes
Randy Orton will cleanly beat Kane
Kelly Kelly and Maria Menounos will defeat Beth Phoenix and Eve, because the celebrity never loses at Wrestlemania
Cody Rhodes will retain the Intercontinental Championship against Big Show, after gaining the upper-hand when Big Show gets tied up in the ropes
Santino Marella will get the pinfall for Team Teddy to beat Team Laurinaitis
CM Punk will defeat will defeat Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship
Undertaker will walk out of Hell In A Cell victorious
Cena will beat The Rock clean
World Heavyweight Championship Match – Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan (C)
This is one I’ve been going back and forth on. One one hand you’ve got the Royal Rumble match winner, who is usually the favourite. Add in the fact that the Rumble winner is about due to win the title after having failed to do so for too long, and Sheamus should win. On the other though, Bryan has been doing some stellar work since turning heel, and the rumoured feud with Orton could still happen if he wins this match. After going back and forth with this one, I’m going for Sheamus to win to become the new World Heavyweight Champion!
Randy Orton vs Kane
I think everyone knows this is a match that was just thrown together because two big names had nothing to do at the biggest show of the year. It is the epitome of a throw-away feud. Because of that, it’s an easy one to pick – Randy Orton wins.
Kelly Kelly and Maria Menounos vs Beth Phoenix and Eve
As Brent said above, never bet against a celebrity at Wrestlemania, even if it is against Beth. Kelly and Maria to win.
Intercontinental Championship – Big Show vs Cody Rhodes (C)
Again this is one I’ve gone back and forth on a bit. Everything tells me Cody should win, but after WWE highlighting the fact that if Big Show wins, he will have held every active male title in the WWE today. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did because of that horrible feeling, but I’m still going for Cody to retain.
Team Teddy Long vs Team John Laurinaitis for the control of Raw and Smackdown
Teddy’s character is stale. Simple as. I’m especially happy that Drew’s on Team Johnny, as I see a lot of potential in him (no Scottish bias there whatsoever). I’m just disappointed they haven’t done more with Ziggler, and to a lesser extent Ryder – because all of the momentum he had seems to have been obliterated. I only see one outcome here – a win for Laurinaitis’ team.
WWE Championship Match – Chris Jericho vs CM Punk (C)
Where do we start here. I have been all for a Punk win, and all for a Jericho win at different times in this feud. The easiest way to continue the rivalry is for Jericho to win, because after not winning the Rumble or the Chamber it would be more difficult to justify another chance for Jericho. But at the same time, Punk has had a good reign, and seems to have moved ahead of Orton as the WWE’s number two babyface. Had this match been the main event, I would have gone for a Punk win to send the fans home happy. As it is, I reckon Jericho will win the title – possibly for the last time.
Hell In a Cell – Triple H vs the Undertaker w/ Shawn Michaels as the Special Guest Referee
The streak continues. Unless DX screw Taker and go into mega-heel mode as the authority figures in the WWE. But that won’t happen. Taker wins and actually walks out victorious this time.
John Cena vs The Rock
This all depends on if they want to do rematches. If there’s gonna be a rematch next year, I would pick Rock to win for sure. But I just don’t know where this is going. Will there be one rematch or two, if any? Would Rock come back just to lose, and in his hometown too? As much as the WWE is trying to make us believe it’s possible, I just can’t see Vince pushing any part-timer over a top full-timer (unless the part-timer is Undertaker at Wrestlemania). I’m going for a Cena win.
It’s fair to say we’re both excited. And as anyone who has read any news-sites over the last day or two will know about, even more so with the added incentive of a possible Brock Lesnar appearance. We should have a recap of sorts for Wrestlemania and Raw up on this site later in the week – around Tuesday or Wednesday.
